Building on our continuous interest in Cairo's suburbs, here are some images that follow up on the "Our Urban Futures" workshop that we led a couple of months ago with a great team of architecture students from different universities. The theme, which borrows its name from a related project by Lebbeus Woods, explores the potential of the excessively used walls of New Cairo as “mediators” between two different situations on
both sides rather than separators. The main role of these interventions was to contest
physical and social fragmentation and separation, and to genuinely question the
architect’s political role.
